  • Freelance German translator, 1985-2002, projects included:
    • Food & Drug Administration submissions for German pharmaceutical firm Boehringer Mannheim
    • The United States and Germany in the Era of the Cold War, a two-volume collection of scholarly papers published by the German Historical Institute, Washington, D.C. (I coordinated a team of 20 translators)
    • McGraw-Hill's 1990 translation of Bernhard Grzimek's Encyclopedia of Mammals
    • background information for a National Geographic feature on Steller’s sea eagles (March 1999)
    • two books on the early German aviator Otto Lilienthal for a project of the Smithsonian Air & Space Museum
    • a debate on the significance of religion to Bach’s musical compositions
    • a book on Schwalm whitework, a kind of German embroidery
    • numerous drug studies, pharmaceutical standard operating procedures, and medical journal articles
