I was raised in South Florida by two biologists. Nature and science
were a part of daily life in our household. My high-school graduation present was a pair of binoculars and Peterson's Field Guide to the Birds.
When it came time for college, I was firmly headed for a biology major until I discovered foreign languages.
I majored in German and became a freelance German translator, gradually adding other services—writing, editing, photography. I spent a fascinating two years at National Public Radio as a librarian and cataloger before moving to North Carolina.
Over the last decade, I have become increasingly concerned about climate change. I participate in organizations that are trying to make a difference in this area: Transition Carrboro-Chapel Hill (particularly its Energy Action Group), 350.org, and the Tar Sands Action campaign. I also offer my various professional skills on a freelance basis to environmental clients and others working for positive change in the world.
